My name is Dmytro Shakal
I am a Ukrainian author, artist and founder of the charity foundation “КРОК ВПЕРЕД-УКРАЇНА!”. I am originally from Snovsk, Ukraine, and currently live in Warsaw, Poland.
Through my books, artwork and charity work, I share my personal experiences. TURET is a separate retail business that I am gradually developing.
Why is the store called “TURET”?
The name refers to Tourette syndrome, a condition I have lived with since childhood. I chose not to hide this part of my experience, but to make it a symbol of openness and the determination to shape my own future.
For me, TURET represents perseverance, honesty and the right to grow despite challenges. A diagnosis does not determine my worth or prevent me from working, creating and running a store.
My diagnosis is part of my life, but it does not define my whole story.
My books, artwork and social projects
I wrote “Я сильніший, ніж мій діагноз” (“I Was Stronger Than My Diagnosis”) and “Життя без права здатися” (“Life Without the Right to Give Up”). I also make paintings through the “Картини, намальовані війною” project and lead the charity “КРОК ВПЕРЕД-УКРАЇНА!”.
